Materials:
  • Aran (A) – 145 yards
  • Coral (B) – 37 yards
  • Navy (C) – 37 yards
  • Grey (D) – 37 yards


Gauge:  11 sc x 12 rows = approximately 4”

Abbreviations (US Terms):
ch: chain
RS: right side
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch

  • Weave ends as you work.
  • Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of the Round.
  • Ch 1 at the beginning of the round does not count as a stitch.

Pattern Instructions
Round 1: With Color A – Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to join in first st. (6)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, sl st to join in first st. (12)
Round 3: Ch 1, *2 sc, sc in next st*, repeat between * to end, sl st to join in first st. (18)
Round 4: Ch 1, *2 sc, sc in next 2 sts*, repeat between * to end, sl st to join in first st. (24)
Round 5: Ch 1, *2 sc, sc in next 3 sts*, repeat between * to end, sl st to join in first st. (30)

Basket Sides
The first round will be worked over top of the sl sts to create a padded stitch. This creates a thick, rounded bottom edge.
Round 18 (WS): Ch 1, sc in each sc from Round 16, sl st to join in first st, turn. (96)
Round 19 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join in first st, turn. (96)
Round 20 – 21: Repeat Round 19. Fasten off Color A after last round.

With Right Side facing, join Color B in first stitch. 
Round 22: Ch 1, *sc in next st, sc spike in next st 1 row below, sc spike in next st 2 rows below, sc spike in next st 3 rows below,* repeat between * to end, sl st to join in first st, turn. (96)
Round 23: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join in first st, turn. (96)
Round 24 – 26: Repeat Round 23. Fasten off after last round.

With Right Side facing, join Color C in first stitch. 
Round 27: Ch 1, *sc spike in next st 3 rows down, sc spike in next st 2 rows down, sc spike in next st 1 row down, sc in next st,* repeat between * to end, sl st to join in first st, turn. (96) 
Round 28: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join in first st, turn. (96)
Round 29 – 31: Repeat Round 28. Fasten off after last round.

With Right Side facing, join Color D in first stitch. 
Round 32 – 36: Repeat Round 22 – 26. Fasten off after last round.

With Right Side facing, join Color A in first stitch. 
Round 37: Ch 1, *sc spike in next st 3 rows down, sc spike in next st 2 rows down, sc spike in next st 1 row down, sc in next st,* repeat between * to end, sl st to join in first st, turn. (96)
Round 38: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join in first st, turn. (96)

You will need:
  • The length of the rope (mine was 38m in length and 6mm in diameter, for a basket of 22x42x17cm)
  • 100% cotton yarn 
  •  5.00 mm hook for crochet (use a metal hook if possible, since the work is quite stiff), or a larger sized hook if your rope is thicker.
Template:
Foundation: decide what size you need the base. Here 22 by 42 cm. The difference between the two dimensions (in my case 20 cm) is to dial the chain to start. In this case 30.
30 +2, turn
Lay the rope along the chain and tie it with a bar without a crochet. 
Look at the photos, it's all very simple.
